The Digestibles

Coffee + Community = 💛

What does tasty coffee, a good book, and optional hugs have in common? They’re all taking place at Rose Cat Coffee Co., a new coffee shop in the Capital City that employs individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Brenda Kasaty, the owner, says the name ‘Rose Cat’ pays homage to a friends daughter who passed away in October of 2022. She had a muscular disorder that kept her in a wheelchair and she gave herself the alter ego name of Rose Cat.

“It is my hope and my dream that this becomes a place where Lincoln as a whole gets to know our employees, relationships are built and community is built.” - Brenda Kasaty, Owner

Stop by, say hi and enjoy a cup—or three! (Personally I can’t contain myself to one cup of coffee. Anyone else??)

Open 7 AM to 4 PM everyday except Sunday. Located at 5600 48th Street just south of Nebraska Parkway.

Things Are Rolling Forward for The Haymarket Skate Park

The city is charging ahead with its proposed $25 million skate park in South Haymarket Park. Construction is slated to begin sometime in 2025, with the park scheduled to open in 2026.

For all of you who've had a lifelong dream of becoming a skater: you have plenty of time to learn and make that dream a reality! Dust off those knee pads and start practicing your kickflips.

What’s Happenin’

Shark Tales & Plane Tails

There’s no better way to start your weekend than with an animated children’s movie projected onto the side of a historical Cold-War Hangar. If that’s something you agree with then tonight’s your lucky night.

The Lincoln Airport is debuting their 2024 outdoor movie series with a presentation of Dreamworks’ Shark Tale. The movie begins at dark (roughly 8:33 PM), but food trucks will be on site starting at 7 PM followed by a few crafts and activities for the kiddos—or young at heart adults—before showtime.

The event is completely free, just make sure to show up early because parking is first come first serve.

Arbor Day Celebration

The Arbor Day Foundation has been planting trees around the globe for over 50 years and this year they’re planting their roots right here in the Capital City. Join in on the event this Saturday, May 11th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Antelope Park.

The Arbor Day Foundation will be handing out 4—6 foot trees for the first 150 people that arrive, so be sure to get there early.

LFR’s New Contract Is Heatin’ Up

Lincoln Fire & Rescue’s ladder trucks aren’t the only thing getting raised. The Capital City has come to an agreement to raise the wages for LFR to 18% over the next three years. The new contract comes with various other benefits such as enhanced leave benefits, differential pay for hazardous roles, and much more.

I’d say that’s well deserved! Although I might be a little biased since they saved my favorite restaurant, Lazlos, from burning down in late 2023.

All jokes aside, we truly thank you for serving our community.
