🎙️ What's on for Memorial Day Weekend?

100 pushups for Murphy, Round'n up an appetite, and a local beer run

Good morning! If you value a stress-free life, you might want to stay away from “O” Street this weekend. Between car shows, holiday traffic, and college kids who don’t have to work on Monday, it’ll make gameday traffic feel like a leisurely Sunday drive.

In today’s LNKscoop:

  • Memorial Day Weekend plans

  • Local Lincolnite makes history

  • Round up an appetite

Let’s dive in.

Memorial Day Weekend

Well, we have a three-day weekend coming up to kick off summer. ☀️⛵️ What does this mean for us in Lincoln?

  • Don’t forget this weekend is about more than just a barbecue. Take some time this weekend to honor the sacrifices of the armed forces. One idea – attend one of the Memorial Day Observance Programs around the city. Here’s a full list of everything taking place.

  • Traffic on “O” Street will be limited during certain times from Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27 to accommodate visitors to Lincoln for a classic car cruise and other events. Click here for more information.

  • Nearly 44 Million American’s will be traveling the roads starting today until next week. NDOT reminds us to stay safe and plan ahead for heavy traffic in and around the capital city. 🚘️

  • It’s getting hot out and pools are opening up. Lincoln public pools will officially be opening for the summer starting Monday, May 27th! Take a dip to beat the heat. 🏊️

Lincoln Rockstar Makes History

If you didn’t hear, local Lincolnite Bryan Olesen had an incredible run in the 25th season of NBC's The Voice, where he reached third place and became the second singer from Lincoln to make it to the finals.

Way to go, Bryan! We’re cheering you on for whatever comes next in your career.

Why some people do 100 pull-ups on Memorial Day

Have you seen "Lone Survivor," the Navy SEAL movie with Mark Wahlberg? Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg, is a real-life hero who gave his life for his team. This Memorial Day, honor his legacy with the Murph Challenge!

1-mile run. 100 pull-ups. 200 push-ups. 300 squats. 1-mile run.

Simple, but tough! Gyms across the US host the Murph Challenge, raising millions for the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Oh, and if you’re up for the official challenge, wear a 20-pound weighted vest while completing the workout. If you’re up for it, you can register here.

Warning: Murph is some serious 💩. Don’t attempt if you haven’t trained properly. You know your physical limits better than anyone.
